maxresdefaultOscar: Updated Predictions – Post Cannes

“Carol,” “MacBeth,” “Inside Out,” “Sicario,” “Mad Max: Fury Road” are just some of the titles that had a strong reaction at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

Since last time (mid-April) a lot has changed. Still, there are a ton of potentially strong films that should show up on the festival circuit this fall.  We still feel strongly about “The Revenant,” “Steve Jobs,” “The Danish Girl,” and “The Hateful Eight” as well.

Golden Globes: Updated Predictions – May 2015

the-walk-the-movieGolden Globes: Updated Predictions – May 2015

So much is going on in the world of film right now. Many potential award candidates have wrapped production, have had test screenings, and some will be premiere at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival which starts Wednesday May 13th.

After an impressive showing at Cinemacon, we have our eyes on Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s “The Revenant.” On the comedy side we are really paying attention to John Wells’ “Adam Jones” and Jean-Marc Vallée’s “Demolition.” You can’t really resist Meryl Streep as a rocker in “Ricki and the Flash” either. Probably the only real lock here.

So here are all our pre-Cannes predictions. We will likely modify the Oscar predictions right after Cannes has concluded and the Golden Globes predictions will follow.

There were many flashy films at this years Sundance Film Festival, but in the end the Grand Jury Prize, as well as the Audience Award, went to an independent adaptation called “Me & Earl & the Dying Girl.”

“Me & Earl & the Dying Girl” is an adaptation of a 2013 book of the same name by Jesse Andrews. It tells the story of a teenage filmmaker and how he befriends a classmate with cancer. It has been called funny, heart-breaking, poignant, and melancholic by critics. It currently holds a 92 on Metacritic with 7 reviews logged.

We still have only movie categories predicted. For a reflection of what the television categories may look like check out our Emmy Predictions.

“The Danish Girl” and “Snowden” really appear to be in a strong position, with newly added award season release dates. Meanwhile in the, very scarce (as usual), comedy categories “Ricki and the Flash” seems baity enough to bring Meryl Streep her next Golden Globe.
