Here they are! Last year we started compiling our own award nominations based on user reviews and critic reviews. We have some excellent contenders for films, video games, and television shows.

In FILM “Birdman” leads the way with 10 nominations, “Inherent Vice” follows with 7 nominations, and “Boyhood” with 6.

In TELEVISION “Game of Thrones” leads with 12 nominations, “True Detective” with 9 nominations, while “Fargo” and “The Knick” tie with 8 nominations.

In VIDEO GAMES “Dragon Age: Inquisition” and “Child of Light” lead with 4 nominations.

We have listed the top 5 in ABC order per category below, to give us an idea what the Golden Globe nominations would look like if they came now. Keep in mind a lot of TV shows and mini-series will come out between now and then, so the tv categories should be taken with a grain of salt.

Oscar: 2015 Oscar Predictions – Post Cannes

Now that two of the most important film festivals have completed it’s time for us to examine which films are looking strong for the Oscar season.

We have fully updated all of our predictions, click on the Oscar tab to see all predicted nominees, alternates, and dark horses.

What did we learn from Cannes? It may not have taken home the Palme, but “Foxcatcher” now looks like our front-runner for many Oscars. The films stands at an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, so even though it is topping most of our lists it seems highly unlikely that it will be a major winner at the end of 2014.  Continue reading

Alright, so we’ve started the year off with a couple strong, successful films. “The Lego Movie” landed with a slew of powerful reviews along with the successful Wes Anderson film “The Grand Budapest Hotel.” Meanwhile we’ve had some strong independent titles like “Under the Skin” and “Locke” hit the review circuit. Also, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” has already climbed to the top of the annual box office, also presenting strong reviews.

Are any of these films going to be the best of 2014? It’s going to be rough considering the slate we have. We are going to present you with our Top 20 guesses of what could receive the most acclaim and give shout outs to some other films that could be in the mix.

This may sound like a stretch, but this film could make a run for Best Picture next year. Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman seem like strong possibilities for awards. Tate Taylor has had success before with “The Help” so we’ll have to see if this film takes the elements that he got right with “The Help” and expands upon them.
