This may be our second to last Golden Globe Predictions unless something significant happens.

The HFPA recently stated that both “The Martian” and “Joy” would be considered comedies. Other notable activities included rejecting Rooney Mara and Alicia Vikander’s placement as “Supporting Actresses.”

We have made all of these updates. We have also done the Television categories. You can keep watch here to see if anything changes between now and the week before the nominations are announced.

Golden Globes: Updated Film Predictions – October

Room-trailerGolden Globes: Updated Film Predictions – October

We have updated our Film Predictions for the Golden Globes. We were going to do the television shows as well, but it seems like not much has changed there.

Click here to see Movie and Television predictions.

Big steps have been made by “Joy,” “Spotlight,” and “Room.” However, there are still many films to be seen. “I Saw the Light” gets pushed to 2016, making the “Musical/Comedy” categories even more obscure.

Oscars: Who’s winning in 2016?

joyheaderOscars: Who’s winning in 2016?

We’re just about half a year away from the 2016 Oscar ceremony. We have periodically kept our Oscar predictions up to date, but at this point we’d like to try and make the early call – Who’s winning this thing?

Thing may be looking identical to the 2015 Oscar ceremony, with Alejandro G. Iñárritu coming out with another visual impressive film: “The Revenant” which is looking more and more like our front-runner. Also with Eddie Redmayne with a strong lead role for “The Danish Girl.”

With that, three of our above-the-line categories will be repeats. Not to mention the strong potential of cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki prevailing for “The Revenant” as well.

But let’s take this one category at a time: Continue reading

Oscars: Updated Predictions – July

With the new, stunning list of films premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, we thought it was about time we go through and update our Oscar Predictions.

Truthfully though, not much has changed. “The Revenant” still looks strong, The Weinstein Company still has “Carol” and “The Hateful Eight.” “Star Wars” seems like it could nail a lot of the technical categories along with Spielberg’s “Bridge of Spies.”

Once TIFF and Telluride kick off we will have a whole new enlightenment on what is to come, but for now here are our best guesses:

Essay: The Potential of “The Revenant”

Essay: The Potential of “The Revenant”

In 2011 Alejandro González Iñárritu signed on to direct “The Revenant” with Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role. Development process for the film began as far back as 2001 when Akiva Goldsman purchased Michael Punke’s manuscript with the intent of producing the film.

Punke’s novel, of the same name, came out in 2003 and was based on the life of frontiersman Hugh Glass.

The story follows Hugh Glass, a fur trapper who is mauled by a bear while hunting. His companions (played by Tom Hardy, Will Poulter, Lukas Haas, and Domhnall Gleeson) rob him and leave him to die, but he survives and sets out for revenge.

Oscar: Updated Predictions – Post Cannes

maxresdefaultOscar: Updated Predictions – Post Cannes

“Carol,” “MacBeth,” “Inside Out,” “Sicario,” “Mad Max: Fury Road” are just some of the titles that had a strong reaction at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

Since last time (mid-April) a lot has changed. Still, there are a ton of potentially strong films that should show up on the festival circuit this fall.  We still feel strongly about “The Revenant,” “Steve Jobs,” “The Danish Girl,” and “The Hateful Eight” as well.

So below are our full predictions, and click here to always access our most updated predictions.
