Batman-vs-SupermanFilm Analysis: Ben Affleck is Batman

On a cold, dark day on the 23rd day of August, Ben Affleck… excuse me… Oscar winner Ben Affleck was announced to play DC Comic’s modern mythos – Batman. This news was met with surprise and a slew of humorous tweets and reddit posts.

The films’ working title is “Batman vs. Superman,” although that is subject to change. The anticipated release date falls in the heart of the summer in 2015 (specifically July 17,2015). Not much is known about what this film will ultimately be about.

Zack Snyder will direct, following up his most recent force in the superhero world: “Man of Steel.” “Man of Steel” was released earlier this summer and met with a mixed critical reaction.”Batman vs. Superman” will work as a sequel to “Man of Steel.”

Zack Snyder on Ben Affleck joining the team: “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.

Warner Bros. executive Greg Silverman followed up: “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”

One can’t help but to worry when films like “Gigli” and “Daredevil” exist out there. While Affleck has proven himself to be one of the great filmmakers of recent years; with his last 3 films being critical hits including “Gone Baby Gone,” “The Town,” and 2012’s Oscar winning film “Argo.”

We will see how Affleck fits into the DC Universe, and if he will follow it to the anticipated Justice League movie. Meanwhile, there are hilarious memes like this out there:
